Medical records state he entered Chimborazo Hospital in Richmond,Virginia in June 1862 for treatment of a thigh injury. William received a medical discharge from Confederate service in September 1862 and returned to Georgia.

William O. Hale and his son John J. Hale enlisted in 1861 in Washington, Ga. with Co B John was killed in 1862 in Virginia. William O. surrendered in Goldsboro, N.C. in 1865. He later moved to Emanuel, County ga. He is listed in Midville, Burke, county ga in the 1870 census(although he lived in emanuel county. I believe he died in 1870 or 1871. HIs father, Eliphalet Hale, moved from Newberry, Mass to warrenton, ga. in 1813.William was born there in 1820. I am trying to locate his grave or any other information.

Daniel was killed by a Yankee sharpshooter in a battle around Richmond in 1864. The story is he and his brother John Malcolm were crouched in a trench. Daniel kept standing up to shoot even though John told him he would be killed. His spoke his last words, 'I want to get one more damn yankee', then he was shot and killed. He is buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA.
