John W Trussell enlisted as a private in Co D, 6th Regt Ga State Troops Dec 20, 1861 and earned a 50.00 bounty to sign up for three years or duration of the war. Mustered out at Savannah, Ga Apr 1862. Elected 2nd Lieutenant of Co B, 32nd Regt Ga Inf Apr 18, 1862; 1st Lieutenant Mar 5, 1863. John W was a school teacher in Talbot County Georgia and probably because he could read and write, he moved quickly up the ranks to 1st LT. In and around Charleston, he was in charge of building some of the trenches and earthworks. In April 1864 there are records where he was the Ordnance Officer for Harrison's Brigade and he ordered ammo and weapons for the unit. He also was assigned for a time to the Palmetto Armory.He fought at the battle of Olustee/Ocean pond and other battles with his brothers.He was killed in a fight, Nov 12 1864, by a union Parrot shell while at Fort Sumter. He is buried with two of his brothers, Robert and Henry Christopher, who survived the war, and are buried with him at the Centerville cemetery in Talbot County , Ga .Duty well done, may he rest in peace.

William Elisha Phelps b. Nov. 1, 1828 in Pulaski Co. GA. He was the eldest of 10 children born to Arthur and Lucinda Evans Phelps. Before the War Between the States, William moved from Pulaski Co. to then Baker Co, now Mitchell Co. GA. There he married Mary Jane Crosby, on April 9, 1857. William served with Co. D, 32nd Regiment GA Infantry, CSA. After the war, he moved to then Berrien now Cook County, GA and after several years returned to Mitchell Co. where he passeed away on Feb. 26, 1896. A Confederate Iron Cross and Headstone Dedication in honor of Private William Elisha Phelps was held on Sat. Sept 7, 1996, Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Mitchell Co. GA. Children of William Elisha Phelps: Joseph Arthur, William Monroe, Mitchell Wilcox, Lucinda Virginia, Callie Jane, Mary Elizabeth, Louisa Lee, King David, Laura Viola, Cynthia Evans, Susannah Vesta, Sallie Camilla.

Enlisted November 1st 1862 at Savannah Georgia. He was born and raised in Taylor County, Butler Georgia. Fought in engagements at Battery Wagner, Olustee. Waynesborough and Honey Hill. Served in the defense of Savannah and the North Carolina Campaign. Captured March 17th 1865 at Averysboro N.C. by Hookers Corps. Sent to Point Lookout Maryland as a prisoner of war. Paroled and released June 24th 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance. Died in Louisville Kentucky June 13th 1929. He is buried in the Wesleyan Cemetery in Cincinnati Ohio. He was my Great Grand Father and never forgave the Union for the War of Northern Aggression.

Nathaniel Garland Rice, age 29, enlisted as a Private 16 Oct 1861 in Company C, 5th State Troops Regiment Georgia, which was organized in Clay County, Georgia, and was known as the 'Jeff Davis Guards.'
He mustered out of this regiment and joined Company F, 32nd Infantry Regiment Georgia on 07 May 1862. At that time he was promoted to 5th Sergeant.
He had two brothers, both of which fought in Georgia infantry regiments. One brother died in a Virginia field hospital following the battle of Sharpsburg/Antietam. The other brother served for the full duration of the war; his regiment was with the Army of Northern Virginia at the surrender at Appomattox in April 1865.
He served for the full duration of the war and was awarded a pension by the State of Texas in 1900.
