Says William Prouty enlisted in the 17th Illinois, served in Tennessee and Georgia and in 'March to the Sea'. He was taken prisoner at the Franklin, Tennessee confined at Andersonville Prison where he suffered horrors for four months. He died in 1902.

Minneapolis,MN, Feb 14, 1914, Minneapolis, Hennipen Co., MN. He married Jennie/Jane Taylor on Sep 30, 1863, LaCrosse Co., WI. Both of his grandfathers, Eliada Matthews and Nicholas P. Bovee served in the Rev. War.
