Samuel Smith enlisted from Trenton, IL 11 Jun 1861 and served in the 22nd 3 years to 7 Jul 1864. Contracted typhoid and 'malarial fever' near Corinth. Recovered and was wounded at Stones River and on the first day of Chickamaga. Mustered out in Springfield, IL after the unit was pulled from the line in GA after the assault on Kennesaw. Returned to Springfield, IL, where he married, became a saloon keeper and was father of four girls.

Served 1861-7/7/64. Jim Murray moved to Marion County after discharge. Lost an arm, not sure which engagement. Farmed west of Patoka, married Elizabeth Crowder and had three sons. I am a great-grand-daughter. He died in 1926 and is buried at Pratt Cemetery near his homestead (part of which is now Lake Carlisle)
