Not sure much about my 3rd Great Grandfather except he was from Fayetteville, Illinois. He was in the 40th Regiment, Company B and he was killed in action in Atlanta, Georgia on July 22, 1864. Also, in the U.S. Register of Deaths of Volunteers 1861-1865 under the remarks column it says 'Wm. Graham' I have no idea what that means. 02/04/2019 Update: Wm. Enlistment Date: 03 August 1861; Discharged Company F, 40th Infantry Regiment Illinois on 22 June 1865; John Lance, his brother Abraham Lance, and three brothers of his wife Arthula Jane Phillips (Jefferson, Joseph, and William C. Phillips) fought at the Battle of Shiloh on April 6 and 7, 1862. All five had enlisted in the federal army as members of Company F 40th Illinois Infantry. Jefferson Phillips died at the Battle of Shiloh on April 7, leaving his wife Mary and six children. His grave marker is at Shiloh National Cemetery. Abraham Lance was wounded, and his right wrist and arm were paralyzed as a result.
