Joseph H. Haynes - Corporal   
Joseph enlisted when over thirty years of age. A shoe maker by trade, he served in the entire conflict from muster to the parade through Washington. During the Vicksburg campain he helped remove the fallen Col.Boomer from the field, remembering 'There was many a tear that day' Joseph left Illinois after the war, moving his family to Oregon by wagon where he engaged in the farming of wheat with his Sons. Proud of his service and regiment to the end, Joseph is buried in Dufur Oregon.

My Great Great Grandfather, born in Geauga County, OH 1820 and moved to Illinois with his family as a youth. Enlisted Aug 5, 1862 at Freeport, IL with Company D, 93rd Illinois. Killed in battle while retrieving the Regimental Colors on Nov. 25, 1863 at Mission Ridge Tunnel Hill, Chattanooga, TN. Buried at Chattanooga National Cemetery
