James Jones enlisted as a private in Capt. Andrew J. Randall's Company E, 117th Illinois Infantry on 19 Sep 1862. On 5 Feb 1864, he was captured in Clinton, Hinds County, Mississippi and sent to Andersonville Prison. There, he perished due to scurvy.
