Hopson Arnold was a Private with the 122nd Illinois Infantry and was admitted to the Soldiers and Sailors Home in Illinois in 1890. He died there. Hopson was buried at Pine Tree Cemetery in Patterson, Illinois, in Greene County. This cemetery includes an old section which was originally named Martin Cemetery. His stone notes his military service.
Hopson was enlisted in the 122nd Illinois on 4 SEP 1862 and mustered out on 15 July 1865, having served with the unit for the entire war. The unit participated in the Siege of Vicksburg, the Battle of Nashville, the Central Mississippi Campaign and the Battle of Fort Blakely in the port of Mobile, AL.
In 1870, he was living in Scottville, Illinois and was a farmer, married to Margaret.

He was discharged for disability AT BATON ROUGE LA JUN 13, 1865 LEFT FOOT CRUSHED JAN 15, 1865. Abraham Hulse, Capt.of Co.E 122nd was among my maternal ancestors from East Tennessee.

A member of my family tree on my maternal grandmother's side. Captain Hulse, a native of East Tennessee, had 2 younger brothers and his father die while serving in the Confederate Army !!! His brother John W. ( Jack ) a direct ancestor of my Grandmother, Sallie Gray Cox, a veteran of the Mexican War, Private Co.E 60th Tenn.Inf. died of diphtheria at the Confederate Hospital,Mobile Ala. Brother Thomas K. Private,Co.E 26th Tenn.Inf.died in Dec.1861. Their father,William K. Private Co.E 60th Tenn Inf captured at ' Big Black River Bridge ' May 17, 1863 died at Camp Morton,Indiana July 2, 1863 at the age of 56 !!!! Captain Hulse served as Sheriff of Macoupin County in his latter years
