He reenrolled as a Private at Camp Fry, Chicago, Cooks Co., IL on February 13, 1865 and served in Company ā€œIā€, Regement 147 Illinois Infantry Volunteers, under the command of Capt. John S. Pratt. He was living in Waconda, IL when he enlisted. In the Spring of 1865, near Balton, GA., he became very ill with chronic diarrhea and constipation and treated for 6 weeks. He became ill twice again after that due to impure water and treated at the camp. He was mustered out as a Corporal January 20, 1866.
