I have Van Beeks bible with a lead ball in the pages, also a tin type of him in uniform.He was attached to the 7th army corps.of the Tenn. Col.Danl Anderson and captain Thomas Jones were his superiors.He served as comander of the Mc Farland post 20 dept. of Iowa after the war.George was permoted to corporal 3 16 63 to Sgt.11 63 and to second Lt. in April 1865 all for brave and meritorious service.
