Mustered in July 8, 1863; mustered out May 25, 1865 in Nashville, TN.
He died January 13, 1888 in Little River, KS. Obituary attributes his death to lung fever as a result of hardships suffered in the Army. He had lost the power of speech for several years before his death.

French-Canadian by birth, Peter went mostly by the name Peter Morris in the USA but enlisted on 10 Dec. 1864 as Peter M. Quatoo and also appears on muster rolls of Company G as Quittow. Both are efforts by anglophone record-keepers to transcribe his French name (Coitou) as he spoke it.
