Elbert Hutchens was my great grandfather Born 24 Aug. 1845 in Cumberland Co. KY. Died 12 Jan 1908. He is buried in the Pace Cemetary near Waterview KY. He owned a farm on Mud Creek near Marrowbone KY. He married his fist cousin Millie Naomi Pace and raised 11 children including two sets of twins. My Grandfather Elvin was one of the eldest set.He was postmaster of the Leslie Post Office for a short time.

Ira Henderson

Ira enlisted in Company B, 37th Regiment, Kentucky Mounted Infantry as a private on August 20, 1863; he was discharged as a private on May 23, 1864, to accept the newly created chaplaincy for the same regiment, upon recommendation of the Governor of Kentucky. A letter to the State of Kentucky, dated May 26, 1864 states 'We here certify that Ira Henderson is a member of the United Baptist Church of Christ in Allen County, Kentucky, known by the name of Puncheon Camp; and that the same Ira Henderson is in good standing in the Church; and is a legally ordained Minister of the Gospel. Therefore we, as The Church, recommend him, the same Ira Henderson to the World as a pious Minister of the Gospel. Done by order of the Church. Signed, James Eleson, Clerk, and Henry Roark, Moderator.' Ira was chaplain to Military Prison No. 4.
On Nov 21, 1864, Ira requested a leave of absence while his regiment was on furlough for twenty days, in order to see his family. Ira had not seen them in over a year, and Mary Anna had been very ill for over six months. Leave was granted. Mary Anna died in February, 1866, and was buried in the Old Puncheon Creek Cemetery. Ira was honorably discharged in August, 1866.

David's son Jessie died fighting for the Confederacy and is buried in Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta, GA. David was part Cherokee Indian and the son of William Crumpton. David was born in North Carolina and died in Monroe County, Kentucky sometime after 1870.

William Jasper Stone was discharged in December 1864. In spring of 1865 he was murdered by rabble of confederate army.
Shot several times his body was taken to his mother's house. Another soldier who served with Stone also was murdered. My grandmother was 5 years old was present at the time. Sworn statements made describing the events.
This was in Jackson County Tennessee.
