Charles F. Lutz - Private
Not a relative, I simply honor his service. Charles was a free-born Mulatto. Enlisted June 23, 1861. Captured in Virginia, May 3, 1863. He remained in Federal custody for about two weeks before being exchanged to rejoin his unit. At the Battle of Gettysburg, on July 2, 1863, he received a severe wound to the left arm, and was captured. Exchanged and furloughed home, he was again shot in his right arm during a personal confrontation, resulting in it's amputation. He was discharged May 9, 1865. Received a pension following the war.
