Newspaper article printed in the Times-Picayune LA Jul 4, 1865 and the New Orleans Times Jul 4, 1865 A CARD New Orleans La, July 3, 1865. We, the undersigned, late officers of the Confederate army and recently released from prison, were passengers on the steamer Missouri, during her recent trip from Louisville to this city. The United States Government had furnished us with cabin transportation, exclusive of subsistence, while a large majority of us were entirely without means. On board too, were three or four wounded soldiers of the Southern army, who were only entitled to passage in the steerage. Captain Hurd, of the Missouri, voluntarily extended all the privileges of the cabin passage to us, strangers to him, upon our mere promise to pay: but he absolutely refused to accept remuneration, when offered, for the subsistence he furnished to our wounded countrymen. A failure on our part to recognize and testify to this unexpected generosity on the part of Captain Hurd, would be the grossest dereliction of duty on our part. We found in him not only an able and careful officer, but a generous friend, who did all in his power for our comfort and accommodations. We hereby tender him our hearty thanks, and command the Missouri to the patronage and support of our friends in the South. Long may she plow in safety the waves of our great river, under the command of her present able and generous master. Captain Jas. R. Wilson, Miss. Captain Charles E. Kennon. La. Captain J. F. i have recently gained some information from my grandfather on our family history, he had a newspaper clipping with George W Chadwick in it and it states that he was inlisted in this unit. He inlisted on July 7, 1861 and was given honorable discahrge on Feb. 11, 1962. The article states that he suffered from chronic diarhea during this winter in Virginia. I am trying to find more information on him, this is as far back as i can find at this point.

John Marshall Wooley is my great great grandfather. He is buried in the Clover Hill cemetary in Lott, TX. He is not noted as a Civil War veteran by the county on their map of cemetaries with Civil War veterans. Marlin is the county seat of Lott county, TX.
We searched the Marlin library for info, and he is listed as JM Wooley, Company H, 9th Louisiana Infantry. This is from the book 'Falls County Civil War Veterans' by Charles Rush.
He is also listed in the research seen at http://tcc230.tripod.com/9thlainf/index.html
