My gg grandfather. Born December 16, 1845 in Armada Township, Macomb County, Michigan.
Enlisted at eighteen years of age on January 23, 1864. His enlistment paper contains the following physical description: height: 5' 6', light complexion, grey eyes, brown hair. During his enlistment period it appears that the 9th MI. Infantry was assigned to provost duty in all the battles from Chattanooga to Atlanta. Discharged Sept. 15, 1865. Died December 4, 1914.

Norman Gass was wounded in action on July 13th, 1862 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee when the garrison was attacked by Nathan Bedford Forrest and a Confederate Cavalry brigade. He died the following October from a fall in the hospital.

Anson H Gallop

Anson Gallop (also spelled Gallup sometimes) was a cousin to my great great grandfather James S Crego (who served in Co A of the 19th MI). Anson's mother Polly (Crego) Gardner was sister to James'father Henry Crego. Anson was 18 years old when he enlisted in October of 1861 and served for the duration of the war, not mustering out until September of 1865. Anson's brother Horace served in Co S of the 17th MI as chaplain. Post-war, Anson and his wife Nettie headed west sometime after 1874 to the Dakota Territory. She died and he remarried a woman named Mary. He died sometime after 1910. He was last foundin the 1910 census in the Stae of Minnesota in Hennepin County.

Andrew Jackson Hurlbert (aka Hurlburt, Hulbert) was born in the village of Palmyra, in Wayne County, NY on 3 Mar 1847. He moved with his parents to the village of Grass Lake near Jackson, MI. He married Hellen Aurelia Updyke (aka Opdyke, Updike). He moved with her to Mancelona, MI in Nov 1869. He died on 28 Feb 1919 in Mancelona and is buried there.

VOLUNTEER ENLISTMENT'' STATE OF MICHIGAN, Town of Pontiac County of Oakland. I Peter HENNAN born in Germany age Thirty-Nine years, volunteered this ninth day of February 1864. He signed his name ( Peter HENNEN ) on this document and it says his occupation was a Blacksmith. it was signed notarized. On another VOLUNTEER ENLISTMENT sheet it states that Peter had Blue eyes, Dark hair, Light complexion, and was 5 feet 6 inches high.

Peter died on June 11, 1865 in the Cumberland US Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee of ''chronic diarehia''.
He is buried in Nashville National Cemetery in Madison, Davidson County, Tennessee. The listing for him in the cemetery record is ''Herman, Peter, d. 06/11/1865, PVT F 9 MICH INF, Plot: J.14370, *''. It needs to be corrected.

At the time of his death, Peter left his wife Caroline (Burkhardt) and 5 children, Peter (14), Frank (12), Lewis (9) (Bess Hennen''s father), John (6) and Margaret (4).

Need confirmation, but believe he was in the 9th Regiment as a Private in Company I. He was married to #1 Eunice Thomas, #2 Abigail Nale, #3 Elizabeth Voagner (Wagner). Conflicting reports indicate he MAY have been a 'Corporal in Company J, 9th Regiment, Michigan Infantry, enlisted 7 March 1865, discharged 26 September 1865, 6 mo, 19 days'.
