James Everton - Private
Born 6 AUG 1840 in Canada. Enlisted 24 AUG 1861 at the age of 22. He was 5 foot 10 inches tall, light hair and complexion and gray eyes. He was the BDE teamster at Columbia TN in May of 1862. He was listed as 'with train' at Stephenson AL in Oct 1863. Wounded at Missionary Ridge by a bullet in the left arm 8 inches below the shoulder. Mustered out of service 29 SEP 64. on 7 APR 1897 he was awared a pension of $6 a month. In 1903 it increased to $12. Died 11 SEP 1909. Buried in the Old Soldier's Cemetery in Grand Rapids MN.

Enlisted with the 11th Infantry Regiment of Michigan, Company D on 25 Aug 1862. Was taken as a POW at the Battle of Chickamauga, GA on 20 Sept 1863. He was returned to Company D on 15 Apr 1865. Discharged in Deproit on 20 June 1865.

Hiram J Everet, son of Peter Everet and Linney Armstrong Everet. Born 1844, St. Joseph Co Michigan; d. 31 Dec
1862 Civil War Action, Stone River Tenn. 18 yrs old.

Hiram passed away at the age of 18, killed in action at Stone River Tennessee on Dec. 31, 1862. Hiram had enlisted from his hometown of Three Rivers, Michigan into company E of the Eleventh Infantry on August 24, 1861 and mustered the same day. His enlistment was for three years, but a year and four months later he was dead on the battlefield.

James was drafted for one year from Orange Township, Ionia County, Michigan at age 40. He was mustered on 4 Oct 1864 at Grand Rapids, assigned to Company H, 9th Infantry and sent to Jackson Michigan awaiting orders. He joined the regiment on 26 Oct 1864 at Chattanooga, TN. He was hospitalized for lung disease resulting from extreme exposure. Discharged at Nashville on 18 May 1865.

Charlie Smith - Private
Charlie is my great-grandfather. He was 18 years old when he enlisted in the 11th Michigan Infantry (Re-organized) at Jackson, Michigan. At the time he was apparently living somewhere in Leonidas Township (near St. Joseph, Michigan). He was mustered out in Nashville and settled in Kansas. He died in 1944 at age 98 and is buried in Sumner cemetery outside of Alton, Kansas.
