Levi Young Fowler

Levi was born 23 April 1831 in North Carolina. The 1860 census finds him at age 27 in Holmes County, Mississippi. The Post Office is at Lexington. He enlists at Lexington on 10 April 1862 in Wofford's Battery, Withers' Regiment Mississippi Light Artillery. After the fight at Vicksburg, he was paroled and rejoined his battery. The battery sees action in the Atlanta and Carolina Campaign. In Jan of 1865 he is suffering from serious Anasarca which is a generalized body edema. He is out of action for the remainder of the war. We are related by marriage. He died 3 Nov 1895 in Cherokee County, Texas and is buried in that place at the Hendrick Cemetery.

William enlisted 10 April 1862 at Lexington in Wither's Regt. Light Artillery Mississippi Vol's. This became Co D 1st Miss. Light Artillery. CMR 23 Feb. 1863 he is on detached duty purchasing horses. He is listed as a Teamster. 30 May 1863 he is killed in the fighting at Vicksburg, Miss. He was the husband of my 1st cousin Elizabeth Pankey of Holmes Miss. He left behind a greiving wife and two small children.
