Virginius was born 1 Mar 1835 in Dinwiddie Co. Virginia. and died 29 June 1908 in Leggett, Polk Co. Texas. Enlisted at Jackson Mississippi on 19 March 1862 at age 24 In Capt J. T. McBee's Co. In Feb 1863 he is found in Co A [McAfee's Hussars] He is discharged 26 June 1863 by substitution - He bought his way out by paying someone else to take his place. The average price was $300. He went home and became a noted physician. He is buried at Jones Prairie Cemetery at Leggett, Polk Co. Texas . We are related by a very distant marriage.

William was born 22 Oct 1834 in South Carolina. The 1860 census finds him in at age 25 in Middleton district, Carroll County, Mississippi. He has 19 items in his archival file. He enlisted 20 Mar 1862 at Jackson, Miss. Capt. J.P. Scales Co of Vols. It is 100 miles to the rendezvous. His horse is valued at $150. In June he is paid $24 for use of his horse at 40 Cents per day. He served until his regiment surrendered at Citronelle and was paroled at Gainsville, Ala. 12 May 1865. He was serving under Col. J.T. McBee at the time of surrender. His unit was as one time attached to the command of Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest in the Middle Tennessee Raids. Involved in over 30 battles and skirmishes during the war including the Atlanta Campaign. We are related by a distant marriage.

George was born in Good Hope, [Rural] Leake County Mississippi. He was 22 when he enlisted at Jackson Miss. on 7 May 1862. Enlisted by Capt. Layton for three years or the war. He has 21 cards in his archival file. He had several sick episodes. 10 July 1863 he is left sick from [ line of march ] at Jackson. In Oct. he is back in his Company. Nov 1863 he is in the hospital per surgeons certificate. 25 Dec. 1864 he is wounded in action. 15 Jan 1865 he is a patient at Saint Mary's Hospital at West Point, Miss. His unit surrendered at Citronella, Alabama on 4 May 1865. George is my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

Great Grandfather. Most records reflect 'TN' McDowell. His brother, John Tresvant (JT) McDowell, was a Cpl in Co G of the 28th. Mustered in April 1862. Wounded in left arm and right eye during Battle of Franklin, TN. Later lost use of left arm and hand. Among last Confederate units East of Mississippi River to surrender at Citronelle, AL, April 1865. POW at Selma, AL until paroled May 1865. Returned home to Panola Co. (Tocowa Springs). Wife and family deceased, home destroyed, livestock gone and fields overgrown. Later married his deceased wife's younger sister, Emma/Emily Waldrup. Received a military pension. He and Emma are buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Batesville, Ms. JT married and moved to Texas and is buried in Rice, TX.

John has 21 Cards in his archival file. He enlisted 10 March 1862 in Branden, Rankin County Miss. in Capt. J. M. Smith's Company of Cavalry, Stark's regiment Miss vols which became Co G 28th Regiment Mississippi Cavalry. His horse is valued at $175.00. It is 40 Miles to Rendezvous. Sept 1862 he is on sick furlough. 20 April 1863 promoted to 4th Sgt and to 3rd Sgt in Sept 1863. On 6 May 1863 he is on detached duty at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. His unit surrendered on 4 May 1865 at Citronella, Alabama. He was from New Hope [Rural]Leake County Miss. He was my 2nd Cousin 4 x removed

Asa was 28 years old when he enlisted 1 May 1862 for 3 years at Brandon, Mississippi. Enlisted by J. M. Smith. He has 23 cards in his archival file. He was sick on several occasions in his unit and was left behind sick at Pulaski, Tenn. is June 1863. In Oct. 1864 he is serving in the recruiting unit. His unit commanded by Col. J. T. McBee surrendered at Citronella, Alabama on 12 May 1865. Asa is my 2nd cousin 4 x removed. Asa had 10 siblings, including 6 brothers all who served along with their 4 brother in Laws'. Deo Vindice

I have not located his grave. William has several brothers in this unit.
