My great grandfather was captured at Lookout Mountain and spent the remainder of the war in the Rock Island POW camp in Illinois. Married Martha McCain, sister of Company A member, Issac McCain. Returned to Lafayette Co. after the war. Both he and Issac are buried at the Williams Cemetary near Pine Flat in southern Lafayette Co.

James Henry Guthrie - 3rd Sergeant |
James Henry Guthrie enlisted in the Confederate Army as a Private in A Company 29th Regiment Mississippi Volunteers on March 15, 1862, at Granada, MS for three years. December 1862 report listed him as absent from his regiment because of a wound. The Jan-Feb 1864 report stated that James H. Guthrie received a severe head wound in Walthall's Brigade during operations before Murfreesboro, TN, December 28, 1862 in a corn field. Report from Shelbyville, TN March-April 1863 had him present in the regiment. Jan-Feb 1864 report listed him as 5 Sgt. Company A, Furloughed 8 Feb 1864 for 24 days. Jan-Feb report 1865 listed him as 3 Sgt. Company A, wounded and sent to the hospital by the Brigade Surgeon.

William C Johnston was the brother of my GG Grandfather Albert
M Johnston of Co K 22nd Mississippi Inf. Regt.
William Johnston was with Walthall's 29th Miss. Inf. Regt. Co A. He died in late May 1862 during the seige of Corinth.
He died just days before the CS army evacuated Corinth.
The 22nd & 29th Mississippi were part of the large Confederate Army force of nearly 60,000 soldiers serving in the trench lines defending Corinth.
Charles was probably buried near the trench lines.

F.M. Morris, age 37, signed up in Oxford, MS-Lafayette County in Feb. 1862 and reported to Grenada,MS March 1862. His Mississippi pension application states that he served until war's end when the 29th disbanded in April 1865. His pension was granted to him in Pontotoc County until his death in 1905 which occurried while visiting some of his sons near Paris, TX, with his burial in Texas. His widow, Emily Jane applied for her widow's pension in 1914 and received it until her death. She lived with my great grandmother, Ella Jane(Morris)Morris at the end of her life and is buried in Avery, TX.

Robert C. Blakely was wounded at Munfordville, KY and captured until General Braxton Bragg made the enemy surrender and exchange prisoners. For a time he was listed as a deserter but later proven to be in the Union Hospital (Presbyterian church) at Munfordville, KY. He never surrendered and walked home at wars' end from North Carolina.
