George Dallas McLellan - Private
George was born 20 Feb 1844 in Dark Corner beat, Holmes Co. Mississippi. The 1860 census has him at age 16 in Holmes Co. Miss. He has 6 items in his archival file. He enlisted at Snyders Bluff on1 Feb 1863 at Snyders Bluff in Capt. John S Hoskins' Co. 38th Mounted Infantry Vol's. Co A. was raised in Holmes County. He would have been about 17 y/o. [* Note that at the time he was not aware that Snyders Bluff would become a major battle site during the union Vicksburg Campaign] George saw action during the Vicksburg Campaign, Harrisburg, Miss. The Tupelo Campaign and a skirmish at the Concord Baptist Church on 1 Dec 1864. He had the honor of riding with Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest. Noted for telling his troops as he led them into battle " Let's bust hell wide open". He was the husband of Eliza J Avery who was related to me as a distant cousin. He died 29 Jan 1913 and is buried at Brister Cem. Hoffman, Holmes Co. Miss. May God rest his soul - Deo Vindice

Foxworth for 3 years or the war. In Dec 1862 he is sent to the hospital by the surgeon. Jan. 1863 he is on detached service at Vicksburg. He fought at the battles of Iuka and Corinth as well as at Vicksburg. His records after Vicksburg are incomplete. He died 18 Mar 1904 in his hometown of Columbia in Marion Co. Miss.
