Enlisted in the 21st Alabama Infantry in Mobile in early 1862. Fought and was wounded at Shiloh. Paroled after one year of service and re-enlisted in the 12th Mississippi Cavalry ( Armistead's Brigade ) at Gainsville, Alabama. Served until his capture at Blakely and paroled at Cuba, Alabama April, 1865

Pvt. Co E 12th Mississippi Cavalry [Armistead's Reg't. of Cavalry]. Enlisted 20 Sept, 1863 at Durant by Capt Samuel W. Red. The company was organized and mustered in the same day Stevens enlisted. * A number of these men formerly served in Capt. S.W. Red'd Company of Infantry Miss. State Troops.
He was sent to Hospital in Talladigo, Ala in Aug. 1864. Appears on a Roll of POW's surrendered at Citronella, Ala. on 4 May1865 and paroled May 14th at Gainsville, Ala. 1865

Charles's CSA service was complicated. They include Co C 56th Alabama Partisan Rangers, which became the 10 Miss. Cav. & 2nd Co. F , 12th Regt. Miss Cav. Also 15th Battn: Ala Partisan Rangers aka Boyle's Regt. Ala Cav. He was enlisted at Garlandsville, Miss. by Capt. G.F. Peek on 29 July 1862. He was promoted to 1st Sergt. on 27 April 1863 and then to Lieutenant [ date unknown] With reorganization he became a Pvt in 10th Miss. Cav. which became into being on 17 Jan 1865.

Paul Stroud - Private
Paul was born in Orange County NC. The 1860 census finds him in Dark Corner beat Holmes County Miss. He is 17 y/o. He has 30 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 20 March 1861 at Durant Holmes Co. MIss. Enlisted by Capt. Jno A. Cason for 12 months. He is wounded 3 times. 30 May 1861 no description of wound is given. 30 Aug 1862 he is shot in the leg at Warrenton Va. 11 April 1865 he is admitted to the Yandell Hospital at Meridian for gunshot wound to his face. He is the brother to John Blackwell Stroud in the same company. He died 23 Dec 1895 and buried in the Saron Cem in Durant, Holmes Co. Miss. He was the stepson of my 1st cousin 4 x removed. [HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ENTERED CO I THE 12TH INFANTRY.
