Enlisted as a Private on 16 September 1861 at the age of 26. Mustered in Company G, 66th Infantry Regiment New York on 4 November 1861. Promoted to Sergeant Major on 15 April 1864. Captured at Petersburg, VA on 17 June 1864. Paroled on 26 November 1864 at Savannah, GA. Mustered out on 30 August 1865 at New York, NY.
