Company E
Howel Hearn
- Private
Both maternal Great-Great Grandfathers served in company E. My understanding is the unit first started as the 10th NCST then was changed to or was also known as the 1st NC Artillery. Great-Great Granpa Howel joined the unit in May of '63 to replace his older brother who died of disease in Wilmington late in '62. He was 33 when he enlisted. He survived the war of northern agression and both he and his wife Jane died in 1880 and are buried at the Gums Springs Baptist Church Annex Cemetary located in SE Chatham Co NC.
