Company B
Hosea Goodman Lanier
- Corporal
Hosea Goodman (Good) Lanier was my great-grandfather.

Excerpt from ''NC Troops 1861-1865-Manarin-Vol. III- Infantry''
Reference # N.C.975.6N:
''Lanier, Hosea G, Corporal. Resided in Duplin County where he enlisted at age 18, June 17, 1861, for the war. Mustered in as a private. Presented or accounted for until wounded September 17, 1862. Appointed corporal, February 1, 1864. Captured near Spotsylvania Court House, Virginia, May 12, 1864, and confined at Point Lookout, Maryland. Transferred to Elmira, New York, August 10, 1864 and was released after taking the Oath of Allegiance on June 23, 1865.''

I was told by my grandmother that Goodman was captured by the yankees in the Civil War. She related the story of him being told by the yankees to cooperate and he spit at them and told them to go to hell. This was very strong language for my Grandmother to use and the only time I ever heard her utter a profanity.
