Richard was 55 when he joined, family history claims he just joined to take care of his eldest son, George, who enlisted on the same day. Richard took sick after sleeping on the ground w/salted pork diet and was unable to continue on after Louisville,KY and was discharged. He died of his illness a month later. His son went on to be killed in action at Stones River, Murfreesboro, TN.

Paroled at Graysville, GA 7 Feb 1864 then hospitalized until discharge on surgeon's certificate of disability 25 Sep 1864. B: 29 Nov 1839, Carroll County, OH D: 12 Aug 1923, Dover, Tuscarawas County, OH Post-war: School teacher then principal Dover High School.
