One of my great-granduncles. Pvt. Thomas E. Mayberry died in Sharpsburg, Maryland on October 15, 1862 from wounds received at the Battle of Antietam. More than 23,000 Union and Confederate casualties resulted from this battle.

Joseph Shook is my great great uncle. He is the son of Jacob Shook and Mollie Brown. He enlisted on June 8, 1861 in Columbus, Ohio, was promoted to full Corporal on October 1, 1863 and was mustered out July 26, 1865. He was born December 1840 in Pennsylvania and lived out his life in various areas of western PA. His first wife was Harriet Longacre and his children to her are Nettie, Mary and James Shook. His second wife was Anna and their son is Herman Shook. In the 1920 PA census, Joseph, Anna and Herman Shook lived in Linesville, Crawford Co., PA. Joseph would have been 80 years old then.
