George E Ernsberger enlisted into the 54th Ohio at age 18 on February 13 1864 in Lima, Perry County, Ohio. He took sick in May of 1864 and spent most of the summer of 1864 in hospitals from Louisville to Chattanoga. He rejoined his regiment for the 'March to the Sea' and was promoted to Corporal near the end of the war. Furloughed and mustered out June 1865.
