46th Pennsylvania Infantry
Company Unknown
Daniel Clark Jr. - Private
Drafted out of Potter County Pennsylvania in late 1861. He spent time north of Washington as part of the defenses of the city. According to letters written to relatives their training was intensive although they were having difficulty learning skirmishing tactics. Clark participated in the Battle of Cedar Mountain and was involved in the somewhat successful but eventually ill fated attack on Jackson's flank (pushed back a section of the Stonewall Brigade from their lines). Clark was wounded during the retreat through the wheat field (wound to thigh and abdomen). Clark was moved to the convereted hospital in the Union Hotel in Culpepper for treatment. Soon after the Confederates advanced on the town. Apparently he was left with others who were too injured to travel and subsequently captured by Confederate forces. Clark died 10 days after being wounded. He was more than likely buried with others from the 46th in the Culpepper cemetary.

Leander Bush - Private
Leander is my Great Grandfather. He lived in Belle Vernon, Pa, when he joined the war. At some point he was wounded, exited, and joined back up when he was well. He did March with Sherman through Georgia but was captured during a night raid and was taken to Andersonville Prison where he spent the rest of the war. Andersonville held its own type of horrors.
