Pvt. Isaiah B. Rabon 1844-1908 of Horry, SC served in Co A, . He was the son1st SC Artillery, CSA. Son of George Rabon & Barbara Johnson of Horry. Isaiah survived the war, got married & raised a family in the Cool Springs, SC area. Isaiah B. Rabon is buried at Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church near Aynor, SC. He has a flat granite marker with a cross beside it. He is my GG-grandfather via his oldest daughter, Helen Rabon Hucks 1869-1941 of Aynor, SC.

He was my great grandfather. He was sent to cover Lee's retreat from Richmond. He was wounded at Darbytown and imprisoned at Pt Lookout , Maryland. Lee surrendered, Papa swore an alleigance to the union and walked back to his farm called 'Fruit Hill' in Edgefield County SC and Saluda County Sc line.
He was paid extra for having officer grade horses and was 'B' Company cook. I have his pay records (copies)

Aaron Dickson Burton - Private

Aaron was born in Newberry, Newberry Co. SC 16 May 1844. He enlisted at age 17 on 3 Dec 1861 in Capt J. P. Spearman's Co. C Holcomb's Legion. He has 11 cards in this file. This evolved into Co E 7th Regiment SC Cavalry. He suffered a gunshot wound to his hip during the Petersburg Siege and was admitted
1 June1864 to the Jackson Hospital at Richmond. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House 9 April 1865.
Prior to 18 March 1864 his duty was with Holcomb's Legion. At this point I have not documented his action with that unit.
We are related thru a distant marriage on my paternal line.

John Sumter Cole - Private
|
Born June 26, 1825 in Sumter County, SC. First wife with whom he had five children died October 24, 1862. Approximately four months later he enlisted March 7, 1863 in Company A, Tucker's Cavalry Squadron at Georgetown, SC. He was on that roster when it became Company F, 7th SC Cavalry. Present March 1863-February 12, 1864. Detailed to Commissary Depot in Georgetown February 12 - 29, 1864. Present mounted March - October 1864. Dismounted since October 7, 1864. On November 25, 1864, Captain W.L. Wallace wrote a letter to Col. H. Taylor where he mentions that Private J.S. Cole and Sgt. J.D. Sessions horses were killed by the enemy in action on the Charles City Road on October 7, 1864. Captain Wallace fixed appraisement and valued John's horse at $1,800. John Cole was wounded at Appomattox Station on April 8, 1865 in his right hand by a minie ball. He was at Flying (Field) Hospital, 24th Army Corps April 11 - 13, 1865; paroled at Appomattox while still a patient in the hospital; transferred to CSA General Hospital in Farmville on April 13, 1865; and again paroled and released on April 16, 1865. John S. Cole died October 7, 1900, the same month and day that his horse was killed 36 years earlier during the war. He is buried in Manning Cemetery, Clarendon County, SC.

Wesley Samuel Foxworth - Private

My gg-grandfather.
Wesley enlisted in Confederate army on September 1, 1863 at Georgetown. He joined with Captain John Hyrne Tuckers Company of South Carolina Cavalry, 'Marion's Men of Winyah'. It was incorporated into the 7th SC Cavalry in March 1864 and formed Companys A and F of that regiment.
He died September 22, 1864 and is buried somewhere unknown in Virginia.

Daniel H. Rabon - Private
|
Pvt. Daniel H. Rabon (1834-1904) of Horry, SC served in Co. F, 7th SC Calvary, CSA. He was the son of William Rabon & Mary Phillips Rabon of Horry, SC. Daniel was shot in the thigh during the war & did recover to finish his duty. He married Elizabeth Johnson & raised several children including my GG-grandmother, Amanda Rabon James 1868-1907 of Horry, SC. Daniel Rabon is named in his father's will of 1854 (www.HCHSonline.org) as inheriting a large tract of land (about 300 acres) & 7 head of hogs. He is my GGG-grandfather & is buried at Cool Springs Southern Methodist Church near Aynor, SC. He was among the last Confederates to withdraw from Richmond, VA after the war ended in 1865. Daniel Rabon can also be found at findagrave.com where several of his muster rolls are posted as well. I am the guardian of his grave.

David Scarborough Rabon - Sergeant
|
David Rabon 1839-1912 was the son of William Rabon & Mary Phillips Rabon of the Cool Springs section of Horry Co., SC. He enlisted with Co L, 7th SC Infantry in Vienna, VA Sept. 30, 1861 age 21. He was admitted to hospital with measels June - July 1862. Promoted to 1st Corp. Jan. 1862. He was a POW at Fort McHenry Oct. 1862; paroled & sent to Fortress Monroe for exchange. Hospitalized Oct - Nov 1863 with wound to thigh. Enlisted with Tucker's Cavalry Co B, July 9, 1863 at Georgetown, SC. Transferred back to Co L, 7th SC Infantry Dec. 1863 - 1864. Promoted to 4th Sergeant June 4, 1864. Transferred to Co F, 7th SC Cavalry, CSA where he remained until the end of the war. David Rabon was serving as Horry Co. Commissioner at the time of his death in 1912. He is buried at a cemetery in Pine Island (near Myrtle Beach), SC (cemetery now lost).

Jeremiah Rabon - Private
|
Pvt. Jeremiah Rabon 1837-1864 enlisted with Co B, Tucker's Cavalry in Georgetown, SC Sept. 1863 & was on that roster when it became Co F, 7th SC Cavalry, CSA (Capt. W.L. Wallace). He was admitted to Jackson Hospital with fever May - June 1864 & again there with acute diarrhea Aug. 19-29, 1864. He did recover & returned to duty & was KIA Sept. 13, 1864. His place of burial is unknown (he was probably buried where he fell as many were). Jeremiah was the son of William Rabon & Mary Phillips Rabon. Jeremiah is my uncle via his brother, Daniel H. Rabon (my GGG-grandfather).

James was born 30 Aug 1844 in Mount Croghan, Chesterfield Co. SC and along with his brother Tristram traveled to Camden SC where they enlisted 21 Sept 1861 as Pvt. in Co H 7th SC Cavalry. He has 9 cards in his archival file 2 of which show him sick in the hospital. Battles include Petersburg Siege, New Market Heights, Ropes Farm, Saylors Creek and Appomattox. He is captured and taken as POW at Burksville on 6 April 1865 and sent to Point Lookout, Md. and released 24 June 1865. Described as being from the Chesterfield SC District. Complexion fair, Brown hair, Hazel eyes and 5 foot 5 3/4 inches tall. He died in Ruby, Mount Croghan Township, SC on 30 Aug 1908 and is buried at Deep Creek Baptist Church in Anson Co. NC. We are kin by marriage.
