William Thomas Jackson - Corporal   
William Thomas Jackson was born October 27, 1845 in Fairforest, SC. He served in the 18th SCVI, Company 'C' known as the Cross Keys Boys,from October 09,1863 until April 10, 1865. He had both arms broken in the explosion of the mine at the Crater and was wounded in both shoulders at the battle of Burgess Mill, Va. He died on March 14, 1925 in Cross Keys,SC. He was married three times and had 9 children. He owned two farms and a country store at his death.

Francis Marion Hodge - Private   
Francis was about 25 years old when he joined on 2 April 1862 at Charleston. Enlisted by Col. Gadberry. His original enlistment document survived. He suffers from chronic diarrhea and is hospitalized several times. In March 1864 he is on detached duty as a Teamster. In April 1864 he is in the hospital in Wilmington NC. He has not been paid in 8 months. Last record of pay was 31 Dec 1863. 29 March 1865 he suffers a gunshot to the left ankle and is in the hospital in Farmville Va. He survived the war and lived to at least 1880. He was the husband of my 2nd cousin 4 x removed Sarah L Young.

He was 5 foot ten inches tall, blue eyes,black hair and dark complexion. He fought until the end. Paroled at Appamatox on 9 April 1865. He was the husband of my 4th great aunt, Catherine Howle 1853 - 1866. She was his 2nd wife.

Andy served from early 1862 until the surrender at Appomatox. He was wounded in action during the siege of Petersburg, VA shortly before the battle of the Crater, and was sent to SC to recuperate. This was fortunate as the explosion that formed the Crater resulted in many casualties in the 18th SC Infantry.

William was 19 years old from Darlington Co. SC. He joined Capt J.W. Norwood's Co H 18th SC Vol's. at Camp Hampton 10 Jan 1862. This became Co I 18th SC Infantry. He served honorably thru the war and was captured on the Petersburg line on 25 March 1865. Sent to Point Lookout and released on 6 June 1865 after ' Swallowing the Yellow Dog'.
