Henry K. Peck - Sergeant Major
Henry K. Peck, a native of Lima, New York, was born in 1826 and migrated to Tennessee with his brother some years prior to the Civil War. Upon information and belief, he enlisted in the 34th Tennessee Regiment at Camp Sneed (near Knoxville) in 1861. His age at the time of enlistment (about 35) and his rank raise the question of whether he may have also served in the Mexican War; however, I have no proof of any such service. Henry Peck died in the Confederate Military Hospital in Shelbyville, TN on June 5, 1863. He is supposedly buried in Shelbyville, but I do not know the name of the cemetery. I visited Shelbyville several years ago and looked for his grave among the Confederate veterans section of a cemetery in that town, but I was unable to locate the gravesite.

William M. Hancock was my ggg grandfather. Family legend has it that he was a POW in Louisville, Kentucky and was released in March 1865. My only guess is that he was captured around Cumberland Gap. I have no idea how to prove this.
