Enlisted as a 2d Lt 10 Sep 1862 and elected to rank 10 Sep 1862, mustered in 25 Sep1862 at Lewisburg by Capt Gordon for 3 years or duration of war. Company records list him as killed in action 3 Feb 1863, succeeded by James M Edmonson. Union records list him as arrested near Ft Donelson 4 Feb 1863, wounded and in hospital . He returned to duty later and appeared on a register of St Mary's Hospital, La Grange, GA, 14 Feb 1864. He reported to duty on 16 Feb 1864. He died in 1865 and is listed on the Civil War monument in the courthouse yard in Marshall Co, TN, among those who died in service. He was b 1823, d 1865, son of Willis and Phoebe Collins, Dist 1, Marshall Co, TN, m 1 Mar 1843, Marshall Co, TN Jane Houze, b 1818, dau of Green S and Elizabeth Houze of Dist 1, Marshall Co, TN.
