He is my paternal great-grandfather. He enlisted in Confederate service in the Spring of 1864 when he was 16 years old. The State of Texas Confederate Widow''s Pension, completed by his widow, Martha Salinas Terry, noted that ''. . .he served in Forrest''s command.'' He was surrendered in May, 1865 at Citronel AL with N.B. Forrest. That puts him in the Alabama Campaign (1864 - 65) where Forrest fought a series of battles against Gen. James Wilson down the lenght of Alabama, including the Battle of Selma, Alabama. After the war, he returned home to Lebanon, Tenn. He was a Methodist curcuit preacher in Tennessee before moving to Manvel, Texas. He is buried in the Manvel cemetary. His grave is marked by a 3'' oblisk (only one in the cemetary). Yes, he is one who ''. . . rode with Forrest.''
