J A Sowell is the brother of my great-great grandfather William Burr Sowell of the 48th Tennessee Infantry. Was captured at the Battle of Fort Donelson and sent to Camp Chase. He was paroled in '63. Maury Co history book said he died in service. Probably from disease.

In a letter dated June 15, 1863 to Maj. General H. W. Halleck, it is reported that Dawson's units of the 15th Tennessee Cavalry, in the Western Tennessee area, were finally broke up by the Federals.
So, on Jul. 18, 1863 -- John went into another Tennessee Cavalry unit (9th TN Cavalry, Co. G) under General Nathan Bedford Forrest.
John was later placed into the 9th (later known as the 19th) Tennessee Cavalry Regiment, Company K., still as a 5th Sergeant under Captain R.M. Sharp
The 9th (19th) Tennessee Cavalry regiment was placed under Colonel J.B. Biffle who was attached directly to General Forrest’s staff.

My GGGGrandfather served in Biffle's unit and was KIA sometime (guessing) in later part of 1864 or early 1865 in Columbia, Hampshire area. Would like to find any photos of him that might exist during this time. None have survived that the family are aware. Believe F. stands for Fount or Fountain as one of his sons was named Fountain. My GGGrandfather Thomas J Edwards(10th Cav Company H, CSA also) married his daughter Nancy Sharp after the Civil war. Would like to find photos of him as well
