William H. Martin - Private
William H. Martin was born 17 Jul 1845 in Roane County, TN, and enlisted on 1 Feb 1861 with Company B in Chattanooga at the age of 19 years (while living in Meigs County, TN, with his widowed mother and siblings). William H. Martin contracted smallpox in April 1865 and died at the Pest House in Dalton, GA, most probably on 31 May 1865. His burial site is unknown, but he may be one of four unknown Union soldiers buried at Dalton's West Hill Cemetery. Another option is a lost cemetery just north of the location of the Pest House, about 3 miles south-southwest of Dalton near a branch of Drowning Bear Creek.
