Company B
James Walter Hubbard - Captain
James Walter Hubbard was elected Corporal of Company B, 9th Tennessee on formation of the unit in 1862, later elected Captain prior to Shioloh. Capt Hubbard was mentioned twice in the dispatches, first at Perryville, and then at Chickamauga. He was wounded badly at Perryville, and limped for the rest of his life. After the War, he returned to civilian life, moving to Texas where he farmed, taught school, and was a leading member of the democratic party. He died in 1927, his obituary can be found in the Confederate Veteran Magazine. I may be a Colonel, but in my family, Great-grandfather Hubbard is known as 'The Captain'.
