Father of Thomas E. Chase of Sullivan Co.Tn. Thomas E. was married to Mary Ardila Cox,sister of my maternal gr,grandfather,Melvin Perry Cox. Thomas J. at age 51,on June 6,1863 enlisted in the Confederate home-guard unit the ' Harris Guards ' of the Sullivan County Reserves. ( possibly named for Tennessee`s Confederate Governor,Isham Harris ? )On May 22,1865 at Jonesboro,Tennessee he took the Oath of Allegiance to the U.S. after surrendering to Federal forces on May 6,1865. His sons,John N.,James H.,and Jeremiah served in the famed Confederate ' fighting ' 19th Tennennessee Infantry Company G.

John enlisted and mustered as a Private in Capt. J.F. Trevitt's Mounted Company for Home Defense ( 6th Co. ' The Harris Guards ' ) on June 6,1863 at Double Springs,Sullivan County,Tenn. He took the Oath of Allegiance at Chattanooga,Tennessee on June 8,1865. He was described as being ' 5'9' light complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, and 45 years old. John's mother, Sarah Cox, was sister to my maternal g,g,g,grandfather, John Cox Jr. He was also the paternal g,g,grandfather of my daughter-in-law, Sharon Cox Land.

Twin brother of Private Johnathan Mulkey Crouch. Both enlisted at age 54 6`2'& blue eyes,Johnathan had black hair while Jesse`s was gray. They enlisted as Privates in Capt J.F.Trevitte`s Company of Rebel ' Home-Guard ' the Sullivan County,Reserves at Double Springs ( probably on the original Church grounds ) near the Sullivan/Washington County lines on June 6,1863.

Father of Rev George Anderson Crouch husband of Emmaline Cox aunt of my paternal gr,grandmother Cynthia Cox Land. Jonathan mustered at Double Springs ( probably on the original Church grounds ) near the Sullivan/Washington County lines on June 6,1863. along with his twin brother Jesse George served in the Confederate ' Home-Guard ' unit commanded by Lieut W.W.Blair the ' Young Rebels of Jonesboro ' He was enlisted at Jonesboro,Tn.by a Capt.Thomas F. Jones 16th Ga.Battalion on June 20,1863. He is listed as a 1st Sgt.

Elijah Hashbarger - Private
E. Hashbarger is how he is listed on the rolls of the Home-Guard. Brother-in-law of my maternal gr,gr,grandfather,John Harvey Cox I believe they were both conscripted into the 19th Confederate Inf. Elijah was slightly wounded at Stone's River and simply came back home and joined the home guard. May well have saved John Harvey's life. According to Family lore The home guard attempted to hang John and a 'brother cut him down '

During the Civil War a ' DEFIANT old Rebel ' indeed !!! at age 68 James enlisted in the Confederate home guard along with his son, 36 yr old, James Kincheloe Jr. June 6,1863 !!!!Kept fox hounds and race horses 5`9`, dark hair, fair complexion, black eyes, a farmer about 18 yrs old in 1813 Bounty land warrant No. 29,339 took deed on Apr. 5, 1824 from father George Kincheloe in Washington County,Tenn.
