enlist 16 June 1862 as substitute for J.S. Powell who was absent without leave . Enlistment was for 3 years or duration of the war. Information from the Texas State Archives
He was born in 1817 in Schwalbach, Nassau Prussia Had done mandatory military service in Germany before coming to Texas on Johann Diethardt in June of 1845 thru the port of Indianola, Texas. Came to Texa as most Germans in that era as part of the Adelsverein.
He was 5 feet 5 inches and had black hair and black eyes. He died in 1867 in La Grange, Fayette, Texas of yellow fever

Joseph lange - Private
Joseph Lange was born about 1838, came to America from Germany in 1854, and in the 1860 census was living in Gillespie county Texas.
Joesph Lange was the first husband of my great grandmother. Eva Brahm Lange married Joseph Lange in Bastrop county Texas on Oct. 23,1865. Joseph and Eva had one child together and her name was Marie Lange who died in 1938. In 1868 Joseph Lange died. Eva Brahm Lange Huber later married Andreas Huber and they settled in Victoria county Texas.

Columbus Hathcock - Private
Columbus was born in New Market, Madison Co. Alabama 22 July 1837. He married Mary Elizabeth Gardner on 6 Jan 1865 at Castorville, Texas. He was enlisted at Salado, Bexar Co. Texas on 25 Nov. 1861 by W. J. Tucker for 12 months. It is 50 miles to rendezvous. Co E Arbuckle's Co. Luckett's Regiment. Men of this unit were primarily form central Tx. Bexar, Gillespie, San Patricio & Travis Co's. According to the Regimental history they were active along the coastal area repelling the invaders. The only battle they were in was in the Jenkins Ferry fight on 30 Apr 1864 in Louisiana during the Red River Campaign. His wife filed for and received a pension approved on 30 Sep 1902. She stated that he had served for 3 years but his archival records has a letter of discharge dated 13 June 1962 for consumption [ TB] which the letter states was contracted before he entered the army. He died 14 Dec 1895. He was the father in law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
