Amos enlisted 1 Oct. 1861 at Sabine Pass in Capt. J.M. Blair's Co. Likens' Battalion Texas Vols. This became Co A 11th Battalion [ Spaight's] 1 Feb. 1864 he is detailed to Gunboat, Steamer Sachem. 29 June 1864 detailed to pursue escaped prisoners. Sept. 1864 he is on provost duty at Sabine Pass. In Oct. 1864 he is promoted to Sergeant and is on a 60 day leave. He is the husband of Martha Ann Gandy, my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

my GG Grand Uncle, was the son of Spencer Murphy Harris, he was born 22 Novemeber 1843 in Tennessee, and died 6 February 1916, Panola County, Texas, and is buried at Waldrop Cemetery. He enlisted in Co B 11th TX Inf on 10 March 1862 along with his father. They fought at the Battles of Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, and Jenkins Ferry.

my GGG Grandfather, came to Panola County, Texas in the 1840's from Tennesee with his mother and brother to farm on the land that his father was granted for his service in the War for Texas Independence. His brother, Alfred Harris, was in the 1st TX Inf and was killed at Chickamauga. His son, Francis Marion Harris also served in the 11th TX Co B. They enlisted on 10 March 1862.They fought at the Battles of Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, and Jenkins Ferry. Spencer and Frank are buried at Waldrop Cemetery in Panola County, Texas.

John was 16 years old. He enlisted on 20 April 1863 at Sabine Pass by Major Hamer for the war. Co B. 11 Battn: Texas Vols's. This unit has Cavalry, Artillery and Infantry componets. John is soon ordered to detached duty to the Marine Dept. by order of Gen. Magruder. 28 June 1863 he is on Gun Boat Uncle Ben. 10 Sept. 1863 he is on C. S. Steamer / Gun Boat Clifton. 1 Jan. 1864 he is on Gun Boat J. H. Belle/Bell and has been reassigned to 4th co. I. 13th Texas Vol's. Marine service. He finishes his service at Matagorda Bay in April 1865.

Marmaduke was born 24 Mar 1828 in Greene Co. Alabama. He has 12 cards in his archival file. He enlisted as Henderson, Tx. on 8 May 1862 in Capt. Smith's Co. for 3 years. He was detailed several times on detached duty to secure arms and clothing by both, General Herbert and Major Caraway.25 July 1863 he is granted a 25-day furlough. On detached duty carrying mail in Jan - Feb 1864 and April 1869. He was engaged in the Red River Campaign including the fight at Mansfield [ which was his hometown] and Jenkin's Ferry. After the war he build a very successful health spa business at Rick's Well's, in De Soto Parish. La. He died in Dec 1911 and is buried in that town. He was my 2nd cousin 5 x removed.

Elisha Morris - Private   
Elisha was the son of John Morris of Panola Co., Tx. In 1862 or 1863 he first enlisted into Co. C, Well's Battalion, Cooper's Command and served for some time in the Indian Territory. He was transfered into the 11th Inf., Walker's Division. He participted in the battles of Mansfield and Pleasant Hill, Louisiana in April 1864. He fought battles and skirmishes in Arkansas before marching home to Texas.
Most of his regiment just went home never to fight again. He was absent without leave since April 30, 1865. He went back home to Panola Co., Texas. Later Elisha moved his family to Grand Saline, Van Zandt Co., Tx.

Isaac Morris - Corporal   
He enlisted 24 Feb 1862 at Carthage, Panola County, Texas and was stationed at one time at Camp Lubbock near Houston. He fought in Louisiana battles with Walker's Division and served until the close of the war. After the war he returned home to Panola Co.,then later moved to Van Zandt County, Texas where he died on 31 Oct 1919 near Grand Saline and is buried at Woodside Cwmetery.

He joined for service on 24 Feb 1862 at Carthage, Panola Co., Tx. His age was listed as 45 years old. He appears on muster rolls through June 1862. He was discharged on 20 June 1862 at Camp Clingh by reason of being over thirty-five years of age.
He was actually 48 years old, with no prior service in the military and should never had been mustered into service.
Almost every able bodied man in his home area tried to enlist their services.

Harrison L.Both show on the roster. Matthew was born 06 Mar 1836 in Indiana,Son of Greenleaf Neely.He was a Methodist
minister.In 1849 the Neely's moved to Hopkins county Texas.
The family show up on the 1850 census in Hopkins county.
Records show they had another brother (Randolph)who died
in the Army.Matthew died on 28 APR 1913 in San Antonio.

He was a resident of Smith County, TX. Parents were Thomas B. and Elizabeth Hilliard Russell from South Carolina. His youngest sister was my ggreat grandmother May 'Mertie' Florence Russell, who married James Knox Polk Gilliam, also a veteran (Co H 13 Tex Inf. C.S.A.). After the Civil War, he married Carrie A. Law Setzler, widow of Jacob R. Setzler. His sister, Martha Russell, married Warren U. Watson. Warren & Martha Russell Watson's daughter was Jinnie Watson, who married
Charles Columbus Gilliam of the same unit as Solomon Hilliard Russell.

The Russell's were from South Carolina, but migrated to Mississippi, about 1850 where my ggrandmother (youngest daughter) was born, and Martha (oldest daughter), was married to Warren Watson. The Russells and Watsons came to Texas about 1859, and settled in Smith County around Starrville.

One muster roll says that he was a sergeant, but a document found in his own handwriting says that he was a lieutenant and entered the 11th infantry during Feb of 1862. He transferred to the engineering dept after Sept 1863 where he served as 1st Lieutenant Engineer till close of the War.

He was sent to Union Military Prison in New Orleans, on March 20, 1864, admitted to St. Louis General Hospital in New Orleans with acute diarrhea, returned home after the war but never fully recovered.
