William S. Jett - Private
|
Willie Jett was in the 9th Virginia for 13 days from point of enlistment until he was gutshot by a Yankee with a shotgun, probably in his first action. Jett was wounded while helping to defeat the Wilson-Kautz raid in 1864, and was only 17 when wounded. He later served in Mosby's Command and was captured in April 1865 while on his way home.

William Harrison Winn enlisted in 1861 and witnessed the surrender April 9th. 1865 at Appomattox. He was born March 2,1841 in Lunenburg County, Virginia, and died Nov.18, 1931 at 90. He died at the Old Confederate Soldiers Hospital/Home on Clay St. in Richmond, Virginia. He is buried in Oakwood cemetery in Richmond, Va. I am not sure if he is my direct kin, as I am kin to many Winn's from Lunenburg, my mother was Eleanor Winn, but if you have useful information, e mail me please.

Resided 108 Plank Road, Fredericksburg (p.41, General Index of Deeds, Spotsylvania Courthouse) Buried with wife Jane in Confederate Cemetery (presume Fredericksburg). Was Deputy Clerk of Spotsylvania Courthouse. His grandfather, William Smock, could have been elected mayor of Fredericksburg in 1808.

Luther Chappell Hardy was born on 18 June 1843 in Lunenburg County Virginia. He died on 13 Sept 1900 in Richmond. He originally mustered with the Lunenburg Light Dragoons, two days before his 18th birthday. During his service in He was captured twice, once at Brandy Station and once at Guinea Station, where he was wounded. He served two sentences in the Elmira POW camp, and was ultimately paroled at the end of the war

Branch Taylor Johns - Private
|
Born July 26, 1840 in Lunenburg Co., VA to Joel Johns, Jr. and Elizabeth Catherine Osborne. Died December 30, 1925 in Lunenburg Co., VA. When the War Between the States broke out, Branch Taylor Johns was a student at Richmond College. He returned home at once and enlisted in the Lunenburg Calvary. During the first months of the war, General J.E.B. Stuart saw the young man shooting at a target as he made his horse jump a high fence. Admiring his skill, he sent for Mr. Branch Taylor Johns and made him his private courier during the four years of war. Later he presented him with a fine sword, bearing the inscription, 'To Branch Taylor Johns, for gallant bravery at all times, from General J.E.B. Stuart.'
BRANCH TAYLOR JOHNS, known as TAYLOR, was a private in company G of the 9th Virgnina Cavalry, CSA.
JOHNS, BRANCH T.: Enl. 6/7/61 in Co. G. Absent on leave, July-Aug. 1861. POW at Thompson's Cross Roads, 5/4/63, and paroled on the spot. Absent sick, Nov.-Dec. 1862, Nov.-Dec. 1863 and at 9/30/64 final roll. M382 roll 30

David Robert Love - Captain
|
David Robert Love was born in n1842 in Lunenburg County Virginia. He died at the age of 74 in 1916. He mustered with his nephew, Luther Chappell Hardy, in the Lunenburg Light Dragoons in 1861. He ultimately became Captain and Company Commander. He was seriously wounded when he was shot through the neck. After the war he was active in the SCV and wrote for the magazine Confederate Veteran.
