My great great grandfather, John Washington Durvin, joined the Hanover Artillery on May 21, 1861. When this unit was disbanded in October 1862 , he transferred to the Amherst Artillery. He was born about 1820 in Louisa County, VA and lived in Hanover County. He married Mary Catherine Gunnell in 1841.
