John J Munday - Private

John Munday was my Great, Great Grandfather. He was inducted to Federal Service with the 12th West Virginia Infantry in Clarksburg, WV. His dates of services were from 12th of June 1862 to June 1865. He served in most of the battles credited to the 12th. He was wounded at the battle of Snicker''s Ferry, VA in July 1864 but returned to duty in the fall of 1864. Later in life he received a Veteran''s Pension for his wounds.
He is buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery, Salem, WV.

Wounded and captured at the battle of Peidmont(June 5, 1864). Prisoner of War at Andersonville, and later moved to Camp Lawton, Millen GA(Oct.31 1864). Where he went from there is unknown. His remains were never recovered. He was my great, great, great grandpap.

He was my gr gr gr grandfather. He was mustered in 8/30/1862 @ Wheeling WV. Survived the entire war. Participated in all 12 battles of the 12th west virginia inafntry. was taken prisoner @ battle of winchester. returned to unit a month later. Was transfered to the 8th corp and the 24th corp. He fought under Gibbons @ Appomatox and was one of three sides of union forces that surrounded lee. i have his penciled diary of his accounts of the war.

William was ''first cousin, three times removed''! Confusing.
He enrolled on August 7, 1862, at Wellsburg, W.Va. for three years service. The regiment was organized at Wheeling, W. Va., August 30, 1862. William was mustered out with his company at Richmond, Virginia, June 16, 1865.

My great, great grandfather mustered in with a Pvt named Mchugh, he also happened to be married to a Rosanna Mchugh. (coincedence?) He survived the war and as a result my great grandfather William was born and then subsequently his son, my grandfather, George William Stock. Small world.
