James Churchill - Private
James Churchill enlisted in the 24th Wisconsin Infantry, Co., D on August 9, 1862 in Milwaukee at the age of twenty. James participated in the Battles of Perryville and Stones River. On December 2, 1862, James was detached as an orderly to General St. Clair Morton in the Pioneer Brigade Corps. In this capacity he served as an escort for General St. Clair until July 18, 1864 at which time he was transferred to the U.S. Veteran Engineers. James was mustered out June 10, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

Royal M.M. Putney - Private
Royal Putney enlisted in the 24th Wisconsin Infantry. Co. E on August 15, 1862. Royal was wounded during the battle of Missionary Ridge, Tennessee and was taken to the Army Field Hospital in Chattanooga. While recovering from his wound, he contracted a cold and developed an abscess in his lungs which caused his death on January 23, 1864. Royal is buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Tennessee. Royal left behind his wife, Lydia, and daughter, Estella.
