Cpl. Alpheus Hodges and the first shot

Cpl Alpheus Hodges of company-F, 9th N.Y. cavalry claimed for many years he fired the first union shot at Gettysburg Pa on July-1 1863. Not sure if his claim was ever proved one way or the other.

Well Larry,

He was with the branch of the Union Buford's Cavalry, that was in place to meet the Rebs day 1, so maybe he did fire the 1st shot!?

Who's to say?
It's possible?
