Born: November 14, 1842, Georgia. Died July 20 1920, Ashland, Clay County, AL, buried Pole Bridge Cemetery. Muster Roll of Captain Robert H. Isbell, Company G of the 1st Regiment, Alabama Vounteers, in service of the Confederate States for 12 months unless sooner discharged. Roll No. 63, Rainwater John D, age 19, joined for duty Escambia Florida Date Oct 1861, station: Camp (unreadable) Escambia, Florida Alabama pension 10260, Clay County, pensioner J. D. Rainwater, rank pvt., G Company, 1st Regt. Alabama. Enlisted July 5, 1861 at Warrington, Fla. Discharged May 12, 1865. Wounded at Warrington, Fla. (battle). Witnesses: A.S. Stockdale, Robert Stringfellow. Letter, War Department, The Adjutant General’s Office, Washington, dated November 28, 1924. In reply refer to A.G.201.3 (11-26-24) ORD, Honorable Miles C. Allgood, House of Representatives. My dear Mr. Allgood: text extract: The records show that one John D. Rainwater served as a private, Old Company G. 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry, Confederate States Army. He enlisted July 5, 1861 at Barrancas for twelve months, and was reported present on the muster rolls for July and August, 1861; September and October, 1861, and November and December, 1861. The regiment was reorganized March 5, 1862, as the 1st Regiment Alabama Artillery, and again reorganized April_, 1862, as the 1st Regiment Alabama Infantry, but the soldier’s name is not borne on the rolls on file of the reorganized regiment. The records further show that one J. D. Rainwater served as a private, Company _, 1st Regiment Alabama Artillery, Confederate States Army, and was paroled at Talladega, Ala., May 25, 1865. No other record as a member of the organization has been found.
