Ancestor Info
Name: William Alexander CoxRank: Corporal Company:

My maternal great-grandfather was William Alexander Leonidas Cox, a TN native who enlisted in the 9th Alabama Infantry Regiment just after it was formed. Family records document facts that indicate he was with this unit and wounded by a rifle shot in his foot during Pickett's charge at the Battle of Gettysburg. After the Civil War, he lived in Murfreesboro, TN, and became a school teacher. One child -- Jessie Cox, my maternal grandfather -- became a successful artist who later painted beautiful murals in private and governmnet buildings in Memphis, TN. I'd welcome hearing from anyone who can provide information to add to our family history.
