Robert Wheeler was born 1839 in Virginia to William and Elizabeth Stansberry Wheeler. Robert joined the 35th April of 1862 at Lagrange, AL as the time he was a saddler in Tuscumbia. Marcus DL Green the 2nd colorbearer married Robert's sister Feb. of 1864 at Tuscumbia. When Marcus lost his leg at the Battle of Peachtree Creek, Robert was elected colorbearer that night. Rick Reeves did a beautiful painting The Battle of Peach Tree Creek, depicting M. D. L. Green as the colorbearer.
