Chester enlisted at Centreville, Bibb County, on 15 March 1862. He was present at Manassas #2, Salem Church, Gettysburg, Kautz and Wilson's Raids, Battle of the Crater, Davis Farm and Ream's Station where he was wounded and furloughed. After the war he returned to Bibb County and ran a stagecoach stop and store near Scottsville. His father, Oliver Stacy Quinn was a member of the Alabama Legislature and sheriff of Bibb Co. His son Oliver, who helped get a school built in Blockton and later ran a store in Tuscaloosa, built what is known as the 'Belcher place' just off old U.S. 82 on the road to the cemetery. Chester's grandson, Burl Quinn, ran the hardware store until he sold out in the early 1970's
