Thomas Wade Harper - Private
Thomas Wade Harper, son of Thomas A. Harper born 1802 in VA, was born about 1839 in Smith County, Tennessee but his family emigrated to Marion Co., AL right after he was born. He enlisted May 7, 1862, in Co. H, 43rd Alabama Infantry, CSA, and was killed in the Battle of Knoxville. He is buried in Bethel Cemetery in Knoxville, TN. His widow's pension application states that they had no children. Thomas Wade Harper must have married Mary Elizabeth Lane shortly before he joined the army. He enlisted in 1862 and died about five months later, according to a request for bounty pay that Mary obtained for his service. Mary and family left for Texas about 1869; she remarried in 1871 to John Boren from Texas. Her parents' full names were John Madison Lane and Phoebe Ann Walden. (Source ADAH)
Three (3) of Thomas' brothers served in the 1st AL Cav., USV. He had previously married Mary Elizabeth Lane who requested and obtained bounty pay that was due Thomas. Mary remarried in 1871 to John Boren from Texas. She was the daughter of Phoebe Ann Walden and John Madison Lane. You can view these at
