John Jacob Fatzer - Other
My great great grandfather. A Swiss immigrant. Not sure of his rank, but he did serve as an engineer to the Army of the Cumberland. Served in Company E, 24th Regiment, Illinois Volunteer Infantry, 14th Army Corps - known as the 'Army of the Cumberland' - commanded by Generals George E. Thomas and Tom Sherman for most of the war. He was with General Sherman in his march through Georgia to the sea. He was educated as an engineer; applying those skills to his service in the Civil War.
